Although it has the designation of subclass 482 visa the Department of Home Affairs refer to this visa as the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa. This subclass 482 TSS visa was opened for new applications from 18 March 2018. It was introduced as part of the visa reforms announced in April 2017. The TSS visa was introduced as a replacement to the long standing subclass 457 Temporary Skilled Work visa program.
Subclass 457 visa applications were closed to new applications from 18 March 2018. If you hold a 457 application it will remain in effect until the date of expiry. As the name suggests, the TSS visa is a skilled temporary visa. Visa holders can live and work in Australia for the duration of the visa period. The TSS visa program has three stages:
